What's New:

Welcome Dr. Chana Eisenstein!

We are pleased to welcome our new veterinarian and medical director, Dr. Chana Eisenstein. She joins a strong team of dedicated and compassionate staff, and together they look forward to continuing to serve your needs and provide excellent care for your animal companions. Dr. Eisenstein earned her DVM from Ross University, and completed her clinical training at University of Missouri-Columbia, after which she obtained special training in endocrinology, nephrology and exotic medicine at the Animal Medical Center in New York. After veterinary school, she practiced in the mid-west prior to relocating back to California. Among her interests is geriatric medicine of cats and dogs, as well as avian medicine.

Dr. Eisenstein has a long history in the veterinary field, starting by rescuing orphaned and injured domestic animals and wildlife as a child, and volunteering for her family veterinarian where she developed her interest in and passion for animal healthcare. As a child with an older brother completing a residency in ophthalmology, Dr. Eisenstein became the recipient of many laboratory rabbits for which she cared and which taught her the rudimentary skills of animal husbandry. With Dr. James Herriot as her hero and model, Dr. Eisenstein strives to approach veterinary medicine in a dynamic and compassionate way, with the deep recognition of the bond between people and animals.

While in college Dr. Eisenstein chartered Pets Are Loving Support a non-profit agency organized to improve the quality of life of people with AIDS by preserving and promoting the human/animal bond through the care and maintenance of their animal companions. She also volunteered at Safari West a wildlife preserve dedicated to preservation of endangered exotic species through breeding, and public education. As a college student, Dr. Eisenstein adopted a dog found injured on the side of a highway. The experience of rehabilitating Sunny and the ensuing years with her beloved, albeit damaged dog were the most significant in her decision to pursue veterinary medicine as a vocation. Among the rescued birds that hold a special place in her heart are Trapeze and Popcorn, an odd couple comprised of a fearless African Grey Cheek Parakeet and her over-protective consort, a chivalrous Cockatiel. Hawka was a found Starling hatchling she hand-raised and who followed her on her travels for over twenty years. Tango, a Moluccan cockatoo was a confirmed feather plucker who taught her of the many social difficulties of caged pet birds who, due to boredom, begin the self-destructive habit of pulling out their own feathers.

Dr. Eisenstein is an advocate of client education and preventive care such as dental prophylaxis and early sterilization. She is a veterinarian who will take time to explain complex disease processes and treatment options to clients. Dr. Eisenstein has a vast library of client education materials, which address many problems in concise, easy to understand format, and she always invites questions. She currently enjoys the company of her four cats at home, however her life has been enriched by many dogs, birds, ferrets, a myriad rodents and rabbits too! Her interests include writing about her experiences as a veterinary student and as a veterinarian in a humorous way. Dr. Eisenstein looks forward to meeting you and your pets.
